Building Resilience

Life can feel unstable, stressful and uncertain. Cultivating resilience can help you stay sober, positive, grounded, and experience growth.

Let go of the need to control. Yikes! When we finally recognize what we can’t control and let it go, there is a huge sense of relief. It’s out of your hands, not your responsibility, and you cannot control the outcome. Stress and worry melt away and allows you to focus on what you can control in that moment.

Ride the turbulent waves of your emotions. Bottling up your emotions causes tension and will result in an unexpected outburst (believe me, it isn’t pretty). Instead allow them to flow freely, expressing yourself through journaling, praying, or shouting (alone in the mountains – trust me, this helps!). This encourages you to become flexible and adjust during the normal ebbs and flows that life will throw at you.

“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.” –Psalm 34:17

Re-evaluate and set goals. Stress causes our thoughts to jump from branch to branch in our monkey minds. Get grounded by taking time to write down your monthly or weekly goals, aspirations, and purpose. This directs your thoughts to an inspiring, positive, and healthy outlook to increase your grit and affirm your intentions. This also motivates movement in your Step work. You may even discover a hidden passion!

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12

Anxiety and life disruptions can leave us feeling vulnerable and uncertain… But it doesn’t have to! Rise up, friends, and let’s encourage one another to build resilience!
